I changed my boat (but using previous motor Mercury 402, Serial 9034098) and am now changing from the cable type steering to the extendible rod (think its called rack and pinion, new to this trying to learn the correct terminology)
Got the arm from a local dealer.
the steering works correctly one way but not the other way as the arm get caught in the motor which prevents a full turn as in picture below.
