1980 Mercury Mariner tiller.

The shaft goes down to a hard plastic circle that goes onto shaft to turn the throttle cables in motor. Cables in motor are fine. The handle turns fine but will not move the cables.

I have disassembled the tiller arm and taken out the shaft and plastic piece. Which one would be stripped out. The steel shaft or the hard plastic piece?

If this the plastic piece are they radially avaible at boat stores?

Thanks

I believe the plastic piece is pop riveted to shaft. does plastic part twist on the metal shaft?

yes. ITs not riveted. both are roughly grooved. You can tell that made it for easy access to be replaced.

It will be if buy a new one. Post pics of broken shaft. replaced one, 20 some years ago. if you can figure out the correct correlation from shaft to plastic cam part you can pop rivet yourself. save yourself a lot. PICS PICS

its on the end of #9 (throttle shaft) is the only part it list.. My shaft is grooved and so is the piece. Its the part the cables plug into.
