Stearing cable removal from 40 hp Mercury classic

I am in the middle of removing a 40 hp Mercury 2 stroke. I have the engine ready to pull and I actually its in the air now. I cannot get the steering cable out of the tilt tube. I feel like I am missing a clip or something? Help Please!!!

I was able to get it out. There were two basic problems...1. I was spelling steering wrong, not a big help! Once I spelled it correctly I was able to find the info I needed. 2. The shaft needed a few dozen hard taps with a BFH and 2x4.
