Need help replacing throttle cable on merc 8hp

1990 8 hp Merc 2-stroke long shaft:

The cable broke, and I bought a new one. These have a pull and push cable (two). Connect at the tiller handle and at the motor. I have no idea hot to go about this. Looks like you have to take the tiller handle completely off to feed the cables but I don't have the slightest idea how to get everything apart.

There is a big nut (~1") that holds the tiller assembly to the case but no wrench fits in there to pop it off with out pulling the head out. Anyone know how to take the tiller handle apart from the end were you twist it?

If someone has a link to a video or thread I would appreciate it. Need to get back out on the water to catch some fish!

Get a manual for the motor if you can.

Figured it out, just put a chisel in between the nut and turned the tiller. Couldn't fit a wrench so the chisel wedged in there worked just fine.
