Hi All,

I have a 1979 Mercury 115hp outboard on my Bayliner.
Last fall the throttle got stuck in forward while I was driving to the dock and almost drove onto shore.
So I pulled the throttle back and broke something in there.:blue:
I took the control panel apart, put it in neutral and winterized the boat.

I would like to buy a new control box, since I would like to prevent stuff like that happening again.
I am totally confused as of which one I can use. I don't have Tilt/trim.

The connector on the motor is a 7-pin and all I can find is 8-pin 10-pin 14-pin.
Is there an option to buy a brand new one for an old Mercury?

I kind of like the Quicksilver 881170A 3
That one has an 8-pin connector, Can I splice it and make it work with my engine and existing cables?

I searched this forum and google up and down, I just can't find an answer.

Thanks for reading.

There may be an adapter available ----Talk to a good dealer.-------------Or make up a terminal board yourself.

You can adapt the new control electrical harness to your motor. Your '79 should have the old wire colors and might have a distributor ignition. If the new control uses standard wiring colors the interconnection (old to new) is:

Red-Red for battery; Black-black for ground; Grey to yellow/black for choke; Orange to black/yellow for ign kill; yellow to yellow/red for starter solenoid; Brown to grey for tach signal; white to purple for ign accessory and to power a distributor ign.

8 pin would include an overheat alarm, which you do not have. 10 pin is likely PTT which you do not have.

Thank you so much. I will order this then and check if it works.
I will let you know.

Appreciate it.

As for Adapter cables the only thing I could find is from 8-pin to 10-pin.
