1973 Mercury 80hp external cooling connection?

I want to run my engine high lifted on a light weight catamaran. So I need to connect the cooling water through a hose on to the side of the gear house. I can see where the connection should be, but I need to drill a hole for it. But my question is, what modifications needs to be done to the impeller house? Or do I need a special impeller hose for this cooling setup?

Ricky, You might post your question on the screamandfly forum. Those guys will know. I think you need some kind of low-water pickup.

You can close up the top hole of the water grating, and elongate the lower hole, but all holes will need to be underwater while running to cool properly, unless you do some special mods.
