having an issue with this unit I picked up and cant seem to figure it out.

the boat is a 79 glastron 17' fiberglass
motor is also a 79 merc 140

-everything ran great hooked up to the muffs.
-out on the water it was really sluggish out of the hole.
-almost sounds like something is holding it back
-once what ever is restricting it "lets go" the motor revs to where it should be and the boat takes off.
-doesnt matter if its the start of the day when the motor is cool, or if its in the middle of the middle of the
afternoon pulling the kids on the tube and its been running for while.

any help would be great!

Re: 1979 140hp mercury

Open up your idle mixture screws 1/8 turn and try it again. There is no transition circuit and if you dont have the idle mixture really rich it wont move into the main circuit well. After you move up the idle mixture you may need to turn up the idle timing to keep the idle speed where it needs to be.

Dont worry. This is the most common inline problem and it is easily fixed.
