What is the difference between these two outboards? And what identifies the 20H as such?

I have looked at several pictures of both and the only difference I can tell so far is where the mount holes are drilled on the front emblem face. Thanks.

The 20H is the factory racing motor---- Special racing lower unit.---------Different crankshaft center main bearing too ----------------Mark 20 is a collectable motor.-------Mark 20H is a " keeper " for most folks who have one.----You will see a Mark 20H for sale at $2000.00+ or more.

It is not possible to turn a Mark 20 into a Mark 20H, simply too many changes to the crankcase, cylinder block, crankshaft, rods, pistons, etc., plus completely different mid-section and lower unit.

Regarding the holes in the face plate... The original Mark 20H came with a Carter model N-2150 which had the low speed needle top center and high speed needle bottom center. Top needle got a corresponding hole in the face plate dead center, while the bottom needle got a tiny indent on the bottom of the plate right at the 'V'. The stock Mark 20 had a Tillotson AJ-series carb which had offset low speed needle at about 1:00 and the high speed at about 7:00 with corresponding holes in the face to match.
