hi, i have a 1982 mercury 200hp outboard, and my stator has failed, ive been looking for a new one but im not sure if its a 9 or 16amp, there are no markings on the stator, so i was wondering if there was anyway of identifying what unit it is?
eg. size etc

Do you have a voltage rectifier/regulator on the engine?
Is it a Blackmax? If it is and I am remembering correct, I mean you can use both 9 and 16 amp stator.
Using the 16 amp stator you also need a voltage rectifier/regulator.

Sure your old stator not has a part number stamped in somewhere?
Should be one of these:
5454A7 9 amp
5454A32 15 amp (stator lamination 1/2 " thick)
5454A37 15 amp (stator lamination 5/8" thick)

All V6 Mercs from 1976 ta I don't know when (a very long time) are badged "Black Max". Its a "marketing thing". Its a term that is looked at kinda "jokingly" by a lotta 'ole time hot rodders. Newby's seem ta think "Black Max" is something special............Just a little tid bit of info...........

Anyway, recommend stator and a new rectifier from CDI.

Stator part nr: 174-5456-16 (16 amp)
Rectifier part nr: 194-5279
