ok....thanks for reading.

It's a 1978 Merc 4.5 s/n5071724.

As with most Mercs of this vintage it needs new ignition wiring....and that's what I'm doing.

Question: Underneath the coil...there is a short braided wire that goes nowhere. Should it be grounded? I would assume so.....but it seems so hap-hazard.

That is the ground.------Make sure the surface it contact is clean.----I normally twist it up some to make sure it contacts.---Used that way for many years , so factory thought it was an OK method for them !
