1996 Mercury 40ELO outboard..

Hello..

I have just been given a 1996 40 ELO Mercury outboard and the plug leads from the 2 spark plugs had come off the 2 respective
coils...
This might sound silly but does anyone know if the top coil is for the top spark plug..?..
Because both leads and caps are the same length and Im not sure which way to re connect them...as they will both reach either coil.
