Hi there lm all new to the boating world but loving it so far.
l have a mercury 40hp 2cylinder 2 stroke motor rap around cowling.
Now what is happening is at idle it dosent run right, when l pull the top cylinder plug the engine dosent change
but there is spark ( lm guessing weak spark ). check the resistance of the trigger, coils and stator, the only thing l found
is that on the stator there are two coils a high and a low and the high was lower then specs.
Took the boat on the water and started to play with the throttle and noticed at idle to about half throttle it misses
but once above that the miss goes away and the motor runs perfect all the way to full throttle. could that high side coil affect the weak spark at idle to half speed?

Also when trying to eliminate components l swapped the two trigger wires and swapped the two high tension leads to
see if the issues would transfer to the bottom cylinder but it didn't so l eliminated the trigger, switch box coils and plugs.
please correct me if lm wrong.

Hope theres help out there
