I have a 1996 mariner outboard which has a bent and twisted prop shaft. I need to remove it. I'm at the point where I have all the outer parts removed, only the shaft is left attached to a clutch and gear behind it. Is there a cross pin of some sort in the clutch holding the prop shaft in, and how do I remove it?

First look at the exploded parts view

The #1 web site for genuine Mercury Mercruiser engines, parts and propellers

Youu should be able to see how the spring pushes everything to default Forward gear. When the shift pin is pushed some for Neutral, more for Reverse.

The cross-pin is located in the shift slider, you will have to push the shift pin to release pressure while you drive the pin out.
