I recently bought a new bass boat (1988 tracker fs) with this engine. The engine checked out all the known ways to check it.

Pees well, clean motor, tilt and trim works great, spark on all cylinders, shifts well with clean fluid.

My questions are

Are these motors good? Any commonly known issues with these motors?

Is the oil pump on this motor reliable, or should I disconnect it? Ive had good luck with the VRO system.

Like any outboard it all boils down to how well it has been taken care of by previous owner(s).

Tha oiler is a crap shoot. They are just fine "IF" its been taken care of and "NEVER" over heated. That's tha number one killer of tha oiler gear givin' up..........
