Need to find the year of a Mercury 40 Electronic Ignition Motor

I have a Mercury 2 stroke motor with a serial number of 6415817. I have found on another site where the serial number of 6228285 - C159199 was classified as a 1983 make. But not sure if that includes my serial number. Does anyone have any information regarding the year? Thanks for your help.
