'85 Mercury idle stabilizer

Will a bad Mercury idle stabilizer cause the motor to limit the RPM's to 2200 or is that a different problem?

Need a bit more information that 'Merc 85'.... Let's start with year, and serial number. And as far as I know, they don't do a 4-stroke 85, so I'm not going to ask that question... :facepalm:....

On your 115 hp the stablizer will not limit rpm, beteer to disconnect it all together as it can cause engine damage from over advanced timing..

Sounds like a problem with the high speed stator windings.

thanks. already replaced the stator but found out the reeds on one of the blocks are not good.

So you think a reed valve is limiting your RPM?
