I have a 1983 Mercury 50 Hp ELPT
While changing the water pump unit, I noticed that the lower unit has a raised ridges in the area of the bolts. The water pump base I removed, 46-77176, has a flat base but was indented from being torqued into place. I have two manuals, Clymer and Sealoc, but neither refer to any indentations in the surface that I can find. All it shows is the gasket, the O ring and the base.
It is odd that a gasket would just be flopping between water pump base and the indents on the lower unit.
Could this possibly be a lower unit from a different year? Any ideas on this issue?
