1981 40 hp mercury

i'm having problems keeping my motor primed. I can prim it up and a few hours latter I have to prime it back up to get it to crank. it can sit over night and when I prim it up I can see it filling the filter back up on the side of the motor. I have changed the primer bulb thought that might fix my problem but it did not. it has all new gas lines and primer bulb cleaned carb no leaks anywhere that I can see. any body got any ideas what might be causing my problems.

If you used a aftermarket primer bulb , that could still be your problem, as the check vale in them dose not seal real good and will let fuel leak by. It could also be a bad fuel pump diaphragm that is pin holed and letting fuel leak by or a bad check valve in the fuel pump. Can be a air leak in any of the fuel hose connections or fittings.JMO

I think I have found my problem I pulled the fuel pump off and the check valves is not working. Thanks for the info.
