Recently purchased in Illinois and now in Wyoming's higher (@ 3,500 ft) country, runs great at higher RPMs, but can't get it to idle consistently. We first put the muffs on and got it to idle on land, then put it in water and attempted further adjustment for idle speed. We're using screws A, B (Hidden behind throttle linkage) and C to adjust mixture, then attempting idle speed with D. It will purr along for a while, then revs up or slowly dwindles to quit. Where are we going wrong?

Thanks

Your engine serial number is not lettered or numbered correctly. otd62658 comes up as Serial Number not found. Please try again.

I presume this is a 2 stroke engine and not a 4 stroke? If so then, the link below should help with your engine idle set up,

But if you plan on running at 3,500 ft then you may need to change out the main fuel jets.
High Altitude Jet Chart
Factory installed main fuel jets are normally adequate for proper performance up to approximately 5000 feet
(1524m) above sea level. Between 2000 feet (609.6m) and 5000 feet (1524m) the reduction of the main fuel jet(s)
may result in improved performance and fuel economy. Above 5000 feet, however, it is recommended that main
jet size be reduced as shown per 1000 feet (304.8m) in the following chart. RETURN TO LOWER ELEVATION.
Carburetor jet changes must be reversed to avoid a lean fuel condition when used at low elevation.

See page 3B-12 for the chart list,

Hope this helps, Good luck.:)

I thank you kind sir. Except for adjusting on the wrong screw, we were doing just fine. Surprising we couldn't get'er to go, wouldn't you say?

We're going to give'er another whirl this evening.
