Just picked this boat and all of the insulation on almost all of the wiring is gone or falling off. Inside the motor and from the control box.

Is this normal for a neglected boat or might it have been caused by a short? None of the wires look burned. The last registration on the boat was 2003 and I know its been out in the open for the last 3+ years.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

That is pretty normal for that vintage of a motor. Try the surplusunlimited web site for a replacement motor harness. There are other web-based sources as well.

That is what I was hoping. I'll look for the parts when I get home to a computer.

In many cases you can splice new wiring in when you find a section that is not falling apart.

My 77 1150 has cracked insulation all over, well did, replaced most of it so far.. better to prevent a short than replace parts because it starts to short and blow random electrical components :)
