I'm trying to reassemble the lower unit on my Mercury 9.8 hp. 1979 era. I am able to align the shafts and easily get the nuts on, but the last 1/4" is extremely stubborn. It's as if one of the shafts is too long or something. I picked this up used and did not do the dis-assembly. Any ideas? The shafts are aligned and engaged, so I know that's not the problem, I just can't send it home the last 1/4"...
