hi im new to outboards and am trying to set the timing and lync and sync the carb and ignition, will the joe reeves timing method work on a 1979 mercury 40hp 2 stroke to set the primary pickup and secondary pickup? if not is there any way to get the primary and secondary pickups close without being in the water? im starting from scratch with the adjustments and want to make sure they are close before I try starting the motor, the max advance never got touched so it should still be ok right? any help or tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks
