I think I know why this motor comes with a super heavy cowl.
It is to prevent aluminum shrapnel from injuring the boat occupants.
What a mess. I am told that this 60HP on steroids model frequently blows up.
It wont be rebuilt so I have a parts motor. I will have a better idea of the reason for failure when I strip it.
Any comment?

I have stripped the motor down. The lower con rod broke in half. The portion left attached to the crankshaft flailed around and ripped the crankcase to shreds. As to the reason for failure I can only assume that the piston seized but the reason for that is not clear. Usually it comes down to lubrication. There was no evidence of carb blockage and there was fuel oil mix in side it.

Don't know where you heard that... The 90 and the 60 have very few components in common... And the 90 uses the same pistons and a lot of other parts also used on the 125hp...
