Hi all, my friend recently bought one of these vintage long shaft outboards to use as an auxilliary engine (serial number 9393178). When he bought it, it started fine and ran in a barrel. However, when we tested it on the boat under load, it would always stall when put into gear. A quick Google seemed to point to a carb issue.
I downloaded a copy of the manual and whipped off the cowling, which is when things went pear shaped!
The carb is a Walpro WMB-2. However, part of the carb is missing. The choke cover, choke knob and needle is missing! When the primer bulb is squeezed, the jet of fuel effectively squirts into open air. I have had a look at a few sites, and most of the missing parts are now obsolete, and I cannot even see a complete replacement carb on ebay.
Does anyone have an idea as to whether any other type of carb will fit - a Tillotson or other model that may be more readily available? Otherwise, he has an engine that isnt going anywhere!
Cheers
John
