I purchased my first boat which is a southern pontoon which came with a Mercury 50 Classic. I have rebuilt the carburators, rplaced the water pump, and cleaned a couple contacts on some selenoids. The problem that I am having is getting the boat to stay running after I come off the throttle (while in the water). It works fine when hooked up to muffs (ears). After I start it with the high idle engaged I have to drop the high idle fast and throw full throttle to it, in which it may run about 8 miles an hour top speed but as soon as I come off the throttle about half way the engine dies. Please help I am a single father trying to get to "river rat" wanna be children on the river lol. Hope the information that I have supllied helps to narrow down the possibility of the culprit. Thanx in advance.

P.S.
I have been reading alot of the forums so that I may not have to post a threat, and I'm leading towards a fuel pump rebuilt, but I don't want to be peeing in the wind if that isn't what is wrong
