mercury 500 thunderbolt help

I got a 1970 mercury 500 that was running good and for some old reason today it messed up. I was going cross lake and all the sudden it was like I hit a log. I looked and there was nothing around but I can idle and it goes good but when I throttle it up to plane it act like the prop is not spinning. The motor revs real high and I don't go any where. Any one know what this could be.

The rubber hub in your prop is shot. While in gear and not running grab the prop and see if you can spin it.Time for a new prop or re-hub the old one.
