I have a 2007 50hp Mercury 3 cylinder, 2 cycle on my pontoon. When I place the throttle into what feels like it drops into neutral, also adjacent to the "N" on shift handle, the prop spins freely but makes a clicking noise. If I move the shifter back about another 1/2" inch, it feels as if there is another small spot on the shifter that it lightly falls into and the prop then spins freely and no clicking noise. I believe this is the actual "neutral" position. Is there away to adjust the shift linkage, so as to tweek the shifter so it go completely into neutral, without pulling it slightly past the neutral indent by aproximately 1/2"

Yes, adjustments can typically be made at both ends of the cable.

OK, well how do I adjust the shift cable. My motor is a 2007 Mercury 50 ELPTO 2 stroke. Just need some one to walk me through the the procedure. Do I do it at the motor or thr shifter. I am handy with mechanics, but this is my first outboard and feel I need a little guidance. Thanks in advance

There is a plastic end on each cable where it connects to the throttle and shift linkage, take the nut off that connects the cable to the linkage and then you can spin the plastic end in or out to adjust it.
