My 1968 mercury 650 motor runs smoothly. However, when i have it in gear(forward) it stales out if i try and give it any gas with the throttle. Reverse and neutral both work fine but when i put the motor into gear it can only putt along and eventually stales. (Stales faster if i throttle and give it more gas).

Has anyone had this problem before?

Is it a quick fix?

Do you need any other information?

Thanks,
Ryan

best guess would be carb jets are gummed up if its a 2stroke.
strip nad clean out jets and carbs

I agree with nyx2k - It sounds like a fuel feed issue. I'd add it may be a weak fuel pump.
