1971 Mercury 500 50hp Tach question

Hi all,
Thanks for all the help so far with my restoration questions. I am beginning to think I need to install a tachometer and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for an easy to install, tach that would work on the old merc ...again 1971 merc 500 50hp. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Depends on what type tach you are using.for 70 's era tach use brown wire connected to brown terminal on switch box.for newer tach ...teleflex and such,connect brown wire to one of yellow ports on rectifier.set pulse to half of your stator coils.control box has a pig plug to make connection neat.
