Please help with year of Mercury Comet Lightning

Could someone help me identify the year of this outboard. After a little research, it seems to be a 7.5 hp? I know very little about outboards, but would like to teach myself how to work on this one. Would like to find a manual to help me out. I know if needs a piece on the throttle assembly for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated...One last thing, the serial number had been painted over, and the one on block isn't legible (yeah, I know, sounds fishy) Thanks!

without a serial number it could be anywhere from 1970 to 1979 but by the looks of the cowling i,m going to say 1975 to 1977.if you go to boatinfo- merury all the manuals are there. good luck.

Thank you gbrown. I've been doing a lot of looking since the post, and kinda thought maybe it was mid 70's. I'll check out the manuals
