Are mercury 1990 & 1992 115 hp motors interchangeable?

I currently have a 1990 Mercury 115hp 20" outboard with a dead cylinder.
I am considering buying a 1992 Mercury 115hp 20" outboard with an extension kit making it 25" as a replacement.
A few questions:
1.) I am assuming because the 92 has an extension "kit", I can take it out?.....if not can I replace it with my lower unit from my 90?
2.) the 92 comes with controls, but can I use what I have on my boat already?
3.) is there any difference in the wiring harness?
4.) should I be looking at anything else in terms of interchangeability?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Well from my experience i went from a 1990 60hp to a 1995 115hp, it was plug and play. I plugged in my wiring. Adjusted the throttle and gear shift cable Length and everything was great.

I'm not sure on the extension kit but i would imagine that you could swap lowers to get back to the 20" if the extension kit isn't removable.

Thats what i was thinking/hoping/figuring.
But for some reason, more like my luck compounded that its a boat, im sure when i go to do it it will be the one combination that doesnt work! lol.
