Mercury Alarm Light?

Hello, I have acquired a 1999 50 HP Mercury ELPTO on a pontoon. It is the first boat I have ever owned. The wiring on this this thing is dreadful to say the least. I have dug around the forums to find out as much information as possible and corrected as much as I could. I was surprised to see the alarm under the dash was still wired in. I unhooked and grounded the one leg off it and it sound like the last words of a duck being strangled, which would be impossible to hear in open water My question is, finally, do I need to buy another alarm buzzer or could I install a 12v led light to mount on the dash? Thanks in advance.

Just a follow up on this post. I installed a 12v led light on the dash for the alarm and it worked great. It also indicated that i was overheating at idle. I had to replaced the water pump and thermostat (which was completely melted and almost unrecognizable). All this I was able to do due to the great posts and information on this forum. Thanks to you all!
