Rubber washers fall when I drop the low unit !

Hi guys ! I have a mercury 1997 40 hp serial 0G465268.

Last night, i drop my low unit for water pump replacement. When the low unit go down, two broken rubber seal or o'ring drop on the ground. I don't know where this parts are supposed to be...

It's not the rubber on the water pump because this part stay on the the shaft....

Do you have an idea where this part go ?

Pictures would help. I would guess they go on top of the driveshaft. Perhaps the seal for the water tube.

I tried to put a picture but don't work....the system tell that is not available format but is a .bmp......

if you said that he had one ring for the top of the drive shaft and another one for the water tube it make sens....the water tube drop from the top when i drop the low unit....i imagine the the rubber fall when the water tube and shaft goes down...

Wolf - The pics didn't show up. Try the Photobucket.com thing, it works well.

I think the o-ring and seal are the drive shaft o-ring and the water tube upper seal. We'll see when you get the pics to show.

Your s/n comes up as:

I think those parts you are seeing are portions of items 29/30 under CRANKSHAFT, PISTONS, AND CONNECTING RODS

Here is a poor picture of the carrier assy:

Engines in a s/n range lower than your used the seal assy on the driveshaft, seen as items 32 under GEAR HOUSING (DRIVE SHAFT) but this is no longer used with your s/n.

Finally ....You can see the rubber washers ... The first pics don't work because I was at my job ... Thx for reply.
