We tried launching our boat this weekend. Motor ran great in the yard (125HP 2+2 Merc, 2003). Motor also started right up and then ran great for the first 10 minutes. Every time we would drop the tilt the down the below horizontal the motor would start to sputter and die. This starts about 5 seconds after tilting is done and stalls out within 30 seconds. Very repeatable. Gas line is not pinched anywhere?inspected to the fuel filter. Eventually, it just wouldn?t restart. We tilted it up and down a few times, waited 20 minutes and got it to restart?ran great for 10 minutes and then stalled out again and wouldn?t start. When it did run it purred perfectly!
I am thinking water in the gas, a carb issue or an air leak in the gas line. The tank was about 10% full over winter and was brought to 80% full with new gas this week.
Ideas?
