83 mercury 4 cylinder kill switch wire

I took the black/yellow wire off the switch box and it starts know. What's my next step? Can I wire a toggle switch to shut the motor off for a cheap way out.

That wire goes from the switch box to a tilt switch on the motor then thru the harness to the emergency kill switch (you did check to see if that was tripped didn't you) and then to the ignition switch. Somewhere it is getting a ground put on it.

Check to see if what was tripped? I'm not to good with outboard motors?

Is the tilt switch where the black/ yellow wire is connected with a nut. Is it black about 1.5 or 2 inches long?
