I just bought a 1969 mercury 9.8 merc 110 and just found out that the fuel connector is about $50, my question is, is that part really necessary or is it just for quick connecting and disconnecting, can I clamp a fuel line directly to the male end on the motor. I don't see any problems with this but just thought I would check with everyone before I try it just in case.

You could extend the hose out and put a different connector on it, if you clamp it directly then you can not take the tank lose unless there is a connector on the tank end too.

I plan on hooking it directly to my main tank and connecting it to the motor with a hose clamp so if it needed to be removed it would only take 30 seconds.
