Hey Guys,

Just recently blew my motor, see pic below... Wanted to see about replacing the powerhead. Where are some vendors that would carry my year powerhead? Also, i'm new to the outboard motor world and don't have much knowledge on these things. Is replacing the powerhead extremely difficult or something that I can handle? I didn't spend much on the boat and I don't wanna spend a lot paying someone else to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!download.jpg

I actually found a 1979 mercury 150hp. Just concerned about what I would need to make it work. It doesn't come with the controls. Any help? Thanks!

New powerhead will cost in the 1500-2000 range.in1976 mercury was making motors with out distributor.you should be fine with powerhead with same # of cylinders from 1971 to 1975.donor motor is a good choice

I would look for another engine/boat. I bought a 23 foot pontoon/850 Merc/tandem bunk trailer for $1800. Sold the furniture/seats, folding hard top and one pontoon, also scraped the aluminum rails. Ended up with $900 in the engine/pontoon and trailer.

Control boxes for that engine as hard to find as its has a reverse lock micro switch in it and it has extra pins. You will need the type box below. Motor uses internally mounted trim in boat and is only about 135 hp at prop, hard to start due to choke shutter system, and uses pin shift gearcase like the inline motors
