I recently purchased a 2001 ranger 205svs with a 225 mercury optimax. The top end speed is less than I would of thought(47-49mph) and didn't know if I should be concerned. Starts great and idle is good and gets on plane easily but thought it would run faster. Rpm's averaged 4200 while on plane at full speed. I didn't trim up as far as I could have but didn't think it would make that much more difference in speed. I was thinking the plugs could be something to change out out? Any advice is much appreciated.
