Hi folks! This is my first post. Love the info and knowledge from you all on this site.
I picked up this motor to replace the '84 merc 115 tower of power I have on my 2000 Princecraft 186 super pro.
I paid $1500 for it and all the cylinders are putting out 135 psi compression.
Here's what I need advice on. The guy who I bought it from said he was cruising down the river and his rpm's dropped but was still cruising along so he kept going, soon after he came to a stop and engine was still running but he couldn't go fwd or reverse. He went to a dealer and they put on new Honda 150. This engine has sat for two years.
Last night I pulled the lower unit and found it dry, burnt and full of metal. Drive gear was smooth as a cold bud light. So, in doing some reading and googling. I have the 4.25" bullet, this is the small gear case. What should I do? Replace with same gear case size or go to the larger one? Is this possible? What are the advantages? Benefits? Disadvantages? I don't have a prop yet so that doesn't matter to me.
