30hp Mariner lower unit

I have a 1986 30hp mariner that needs a lower unit. I have been searching around and the prices are out of this world. I have been told that this motor has the same lower unit as a yamaha. I'm just wanting to know what hp range for mariners and for yamaha, has the same lower unit. I saw a 4O hp lower unit on ebay for a reasonable price and it looked like it was not the same or it may have just been a bad picture to compare. Its getting to close to fishing season and any help is greatly appreciated.
