SOLVED: Needed Digital Volt Adapter to test the stator.
Switchbox was bad. See last post.

1989 Mariner 25 hp electric start, remote NO SPARK
Black stator
Mechanical ignition advance
SN: 0c1 51245

Problem:
Prior year, one of the plugs would easily fowl, would have to clean it to get started.
Last fall, all of a sudden, it would not start, no spark. The boat started, a day later, in the driveway it would not start.
NO Spark.

Trouble Shooting:
Checked electrical connections, removed Yellow/black stop wires? No Spark

Pulled Flywheel, tested ohms using fluke digital meter:
trigger OK, stator (ohms low), rectifier OK, coils OK.

Stator ohm readings were low:
Black/Yellow ? Ground: 29.2 should be 32-38
Black/White ? Ground: 27.9 should be 31-37

Original parts:
Switchbox: 339-7452A10
Trigger: R98450A10*
Stator: 86617

Replaced Parts:
Stator: 174-6617k1

OLD Stator DVA testing (disconnected from switchbox)

Note: Perhaps I'm doing the test wrong.
Using Fluke 12 Digital volt meter, no special adapters or harnesses.
From Meter:
Black wire connected to Ground (or the Ground wire of the Stator)
Red wire connected to either the Stator Black/Yellow or Black/White

Tried DV test while cranking engine (spark plugs removed)
Black/Yellow ? Ground: 0V should be 150-300VDC
Black/White ? Ground: 0V should be 10-75VDC

Purchased a new stator: CDI P/N 174-6617K1

Stator ohm readings on new stator:
Black/Yellow ? Ground: 2413 should be 2200 ? 2600 (OK)
Black/White ? Ground: 226 should be 225-300 (OK)

Testing the Stator by cranking the engine, and reading the voltages, using a digital Fluke 8 meter.
Battery charge is full, spark plugs removed, switching meter to both AC and DC volts.

stator DVA test with switchbox connected
-14VDC Black/Yellow VDC (should be 180 or more VDC)
41VAC

3.6VDC black/white VDC (should be 25 or more VDC)
11VAC

Stator (Switchbox disconeccted)
23-24VDC black/yellow (should be 180 or more VDC)
75VAC

-.8 + .8 VDC black/white (should be 25 or more VDC)
8VAC

Note: Flywheel is on, but Not torqued down.
Flywheel looks good, the two magnets are in place and do not looked cracked.

I am at a loss about my readings...
Is the flywheel bad, am I doing the readings incorrectly, I'm using a fluke 12 digital meter?
Any help would be

Thank you.

Thanks Don, I was coming to the same conclusion. My meter does have min/max feature, but I think I'm still not getting the readings properly. I will secure an adapter and then update the post.

You must use a DV Adapter to do the DVA tests. Without it your numbers will be meaningless.
This explains the need for the adapter. http://www.cdielectronics.com/downloads/troubleshooting guide/DVA Explained.pdf

This shows a couple you could use with your meter.

SOLVED: YOU MUST USE A DVA TO TEST THE STATOR

Update, I purchased a DVA Digital Voltage Adpater from USAToolWarehose.com
$26 for the adapter, $15 for shipping :(
ESI 640 Electronic Specialties 640 DVA Adapter

The DVA worked great, with it I was able to test my new stator, and it was within specification.
Ordered a new switchbox from: Black Bear Sporting goods.
Black Bear Sporting Goods - Hunting, Archery, Fishing, Camping, Hiking, Boating, & more.
$97.65 including shipping
This is a Maallory switchbox 9-52101
Note: I placed the order on Monday morning, it shipped Monday afternoon, got it Thursday, WOW!

Hooked up the switchbox and I have spark!

Thanks for all the suggestions.
