Can't find a downloadable manual for my 2005, but have found one for a '98.

Anyone know these engines well enough to say whether there are changes in the engine from 1998 to 2005 that would materially affect the usefulness of the 1998 manual as I work on my 2005?

Much thanks!

What are the s/ns of the engines and what is the p/n of the 1998 manual?

The 1998 is very likely carbureted while the 2005 is probably fuel injected. If that's the case, you will have no useful information for the carburetion system on the 1998. And that section is likely where you will likely spend most of your time.

The 2005 turns out to be a 2003, and is carbureted.

Here's where I'll spend most of my time:

SN= 1F15352AD (a 2003 engine)

PN for the manual isn't available, but here's a link to it.

This starts off as a 2005 engine with a 1998 manual and in your last post you provide a model number (not a s/n) for a 2003 engine:

However the manual you require for the 2005 or 2003 is P/N: 90-856159

You can get it here for a good price,

or send me a PM with an email address and I'll send you a copy.

Thanks for that very generous offer. Armed with the information you sent, I rolled the dice on the on line '98 Manual and it does appear to cover my engine.

I think this little engine -- which I bought with the rod visible through a hole in the bloc -- left the factory with a loose rod bolt. When I stripped the engine down today, I discovered a perfectly whole and unscarred rod bolt laying in the bottom of the case. its flat washer was nearby. The crank appears to be unscarred, probably because the rod is aluminum, not steel, and it is apparently plated with babit on teh big end, in lieu of shell bearings.

The other rod bolt was still in place, but was bent and banged around quite a bit.

I've seen plenty of rod bolts fail in engines of all sorts, but I have never seen one back out. he gonna get some red loctite if I fix it, and I think I will. It's a fresh water, very low time engine, judging by the lack of ccorrosion anywhere and the absence of carbon on the piston tops.

Thanks again for the offer and the valuable inforamtion.
