This motor will be one year old in Dec 2012. If the starting procedure in the owner's manual is used, I have to crank the engine quite a bit before it will start. It will tend to flood before it starts. I have tried various positions on the choke, I have tried with a little of throttle cut in. I took it back to the dealer once and he had no problem starting it. I am wondering if there are any hidden secrets to starting this engine. I wanted to ask here before I take it back to the dealer. I have owned boats since 1973 but they have always been with Johnson 2 strokes. I have never owned a Mercury/Tohatsu before and it may be lack of knowledge on my part.
