Hello all.

I have a 2000 150hp EFI Mercury Saltwater on our Sea Ray 180. We are located in New Zealand.

Today we pulled the boat out in order to get it ready for summer. The engine idles at 1100rpm and drops to 900rpm when the gear is engaged. Is this to high? It seems to move quickly when in gear and 1100rpm seems like a lot. Can this be adjusted at all? When we put the boat in and out of gear we can hear the gears engage quite loudly. We have got brand new cables and a brand new alloy 21inch prop on the boat. We made the change from SS to alloy because we thought the SS was to heavy and as a result was contributing to the noise.

The other problem we are experiencing is that sometimes when you bring the boat from speed back to idle with the gear engaged it can be very hard to pull the throttle back to neutral.

Any help here is much appreciated.

Sounds like when tha cables were changed someting didn't get adjusted just right. Barrel nut maybe? When in neutral look at tha butterflies and make sure they are closed COMPLETLY. Tha hard shifting in and outta gear is caused by tha high idle.........
