93 Mercury O/B 40 HP oil injected timing

Hi all,

I have a 93 Mercury 40 horse (Serial # 0D120493) out board engine that I can't seem to get the timing right on. I put a timing light on it and it was way off. Will pop once in a while but won't run at all. From my understanding the timing on this engine is not adjustable. If someone could verify that then where do I go next with the sistuation. If it is adjustable then how. Unfortunatley I'm use to points and condensers when it comes to o/b's.
