Adding Trim/Tilt Motor to Controls without the Buttons

First of all I would like to thank anyone who can help me. This is my first visit here as I found this place searching the question I have below. This seems like a great site and there was plenty of info about adding Trim/Tilt but not exactly what I was looking for.

Anyway, I had a 1981 50HP Merc that I just tore up. It did not have power trim/tilt and there are no buttons for it on my controls. A buddy has offered me his extra 1989 45HP Merc that has trim/tilt but he does not have any controls. Can I use my current controls and if I can, how do I activate the trim/tilt power unit?
