Hello all.
I have owned a mercury 100hp 2 stroke for the last 8 yrs with no previous problems.
On attempting to start it the engine turned over fine but wasn't firing at the plugs. An engineer diagnosed it as a stator which I have since removed along with the flywheel which had 2 cracked magnets. I found a replacement flywheel and stator secondhand in a boatyard but although the flywheel looks identical the stator is 9amp not 16amp. What are the implications of fitting the 9amp? Will the wires melt? Will it run the same? Looking at older engines of similar or greater power, they were made for 9 amp and presumably worked ok. The stator part no is 398 8778a17.
Advice would be much appreciated.
