i went out fishing last nite, boat ran good on the way out as always.. shut off engine and fished for a while, when i started engine to come back home , it started up fine, and when i put it in gear the boat would not move in either direction.... i tilted the engine up enough to see that the prop is spinning but not making the boat move.... SO i was thinking a spun hub ???? Until i eventually got towed in, and got home and was looking things over , and noticed that while in nuetral that i could not turn the prop,, ..... is that also a sign of spinning a hub ??
it is a 150 mercury salt water,

Re: prop trouble ?

Welcome,
We at least need the year of the motor.
Could be any number of things. The prop may spin in gear in the water even in neutral it might turn very slowly.
Its highly unlikely that the hub is spun to the point of complete failure.
Normally in neutral you could spin the prop by hand.
In gear it would spin by hand like a ratchet clicking one way and catching in the other with about a 1/4 turn to catch.
Its very possible some sort of cable failure. Could be just stuck in neutral.
Hopefully not the gear case or you will have to dig really deep.

thanx and you are pretty right on, I fixed it today, Luckily for me , all it was is a lockwasher nut came loose and the linkage was slipping when i tried to move the accelerator or switch gears. . .
