1996 merc xr2 150 wont idle and tach is intermittent

took the family out for a little bit of scalloping yesterday and the boat ran excellent until we got back to the ramp. this where things changed. fired right up but wouldnt idle and the tach was intermitt working. thoght maybe i had a fouling plug because of the no idling. was able to flush the motor when back home but wouldnt run below 1200 rpms and the tach wouldnt stay consistant. any help would be appreciated. changed plugs and no diff . does this sound like the low side of the stator? how can i test this to check it out?

update did a little looking around and found #s 1 3 5 are not firing at all . #s 2 4 6 are hot as firecrackers . would that explain the intermitt tach operation? and what seems to be the culprit of aggrevation? would that be 1 of the '" brain boxes" on the starboard side of the engine?
