More issues so once again back to the people of iboats.(bless them all)
Have a 1977 merc. 70hp. Took it out earlier this year and ran terrible. Pulled the carbs and gave them a good cleaning. Had to replace the starter because I fried it. I can start it in a barrel but warm up lever has to be up to stay running.(carb adjust I think)
The thing that has me concerned is the temp of the water coming out the tell tale at idle. Very hot.(steaming). If I bring the idle up with the warm up lever it goes back to warm. Can a water pump be good enough to get flow, but not good enough to keep engine cool?

Thanks for any help or input,
Blair

That motor should run dead cold at idle. Sounds like it is time to rebuild the water pump. Did you do a link and synch, after the carb rebuild? Did you adjust the idle mixture screws?

link and synch? dont know what that is so answer is no. did not adjust mix screw yet, only has one for idle, waiting till i am on the water and in gear to do that. Time to get a manual i think. water pump shouldnt be to hard but would feel better with a manual close by.
